Overview

Locale: The site of Fort Sackville on the Wabash River in Vincennes, Indiana When George Rogers Clark defeated the British at Vincennes in 1778, he proved that the best defense against the Indians was an offensive blow at the British posts which served as headquarters for the Indian raids. He thus helped to save the Northwest Territory for America at a time when Americans were faring badly in the Revolutionary War.
