Overview

Locale: Old trading Post at Grand Portage, Minnesota Hardly were the Pilgrim Fathers acquainted with their rocky fringe of the continent before the French explorers reached the very heart of America in their quest for furs. The Fur Trade thus moved ahead of settlement and was forced to retreat before it—advancing more deeply into the wilderness and opening it for commerce and agriculture.
