Overview

Locale: The Junction of the Wisconsin and Mississippi Rivers, near McGregor, Iowa. The discovery of the Upper Mississippi by Marquette and Joliet in 1673 opened a great inland waterway to the development of the fur trade, the conversation of thousands of Indians by missionaries and the rapid exploration of the entire Mississippi Valley
