Overview

Locale: Mandan Village in the vicinity of Bismarck, North Dakota, near which the Lewis and Clark Expedition spent its first winter. The Lewis and Clark exploration of the unknown territory acquired by the Louisiana Purchase not only revealed the rich resources of the lands adjourning the Missouri River, but also helped to establish American title to the Pacific Northwest.
