Overview
Locale: Home of the Mormon Prophet, Joseph Smith, in Nauvoo, Illinois Native religions, such as the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, have not always enjoyed freedom of faith in America. The Mormons were fugitives from three states before the established themselves in Nauvoo and believed, at last, they had found a home where they might live in peace. The murder of the Prophet persuaded most of them to begin their flight to Utah in 1846.
