Overview
Locale: First Bank in Illinois in Old Shawneetown Frontier settlements, despite their bright promise often withered for lack of an adequate supply of money and the means of securing credit. A well-managed bank was indispensable to the pioneer farmer, merchant, shipper and manufacturer. Customers for the Bank in Shawneetown came from points as distant as the struggling village of Chicago.
