Locale: Memorial Gateway at Oberlin College, in Oberlin, Ohio It was Oberlin College which first afforded opportunities for higher learning on a coeducational basis. Oberlin reflected the New England heritage which permeated the Midwest, but it also showed the democratizing influence of a frontier environment.
