Series 1

After his father goes to war 15 year old Londoner Tom Grattan is sent to Yorkshire. There he is thrust into an unknown world that he finds both scary and exciting. He settles in quite well, but wonders about the man skulking on the rocks.

Tom is convinced that the mysterious intruder at the Kirkby farm is Julie's father.

Tom and Julie explore a deserted mine from which they hear mysterious deafening noises.

Tom solves the mystery of the mine - but not before the most terrifying ride of his life!

Julie tries to help the escaped Germans, and finds herself in danger of her life.

Tom is branded a 'German lover' when he helps a local farmer with a German name.

Tom is overjoyed when Stan's son, Frank, comes home on leave

Tom sees a robbery by the Townsend Gang but, with Stan their captive, must remain silent.

With Julie's help, Tom rescues Stan from the clutches of the Townsend Gang.

Tom finds his place as 'man about the farm' usurped by a wounded soldier.

Tom and Julie enjoy a walk to the lighthouse - and unknowingly walk into adventure.
