The disappearance and suspected murder of 20-year-old hitchhiker Tony Jones is one of Australia's most enduring outback cold cases. On November 3, 1982, Jones called his family from a phone box in Townsville, Queensland, detailing travel struggles while hitchhiking to Mount Isa. He was never seen again.

Newcastle man Jayden Penno-Tompsett, 22, was last seen in the early hours of December 31, 2017, near a roadhouse on Thompson Street in Charters Towers, in central Queensland. An extensive multi-day search in January 2018 followed his disappearance, but he was never found.
