Bethel Church and its School of Supernatural Ministry (BSSM—nicknamed the "Christian Hogwarts") maintains a complex relationship with Redding, California. While the church has boosted the local economy, its growing influence in local government has raised concerns. Bethel Redding (Part 1) explores Bethel's theological position on Dominionism and the believer's authority in Christ. Is Bethel attempting to take control of Redding? How do their teachings about supernatural authority play out in practice?
Students worldwide are drawn to Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry (BSSM) for its controversial teachings about supernatural gifts. BSSM leaders say it’s spiritual abuse to charge money for prophetic words, but questions remain about their actual practices and whether spiritual gifts are being twisted for profit. The school's promises of miracles, revival, and earthly prosperity particularly appeal to nations like South Africa, raising concerns about whether Bethel’s global influence creates false hope and distorts the true nature of spiritual gifts.
Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry claims that everyone can learn to prophesy. A deeper examination of Bethel's prophetic teaching and practices reveals concerning claims about the spiritual authority of prophets. The investigation of BSSM's prophetic teachings highlights notable failures of their prophets during the year 2020, emphasizing the need for genuine repentance and greater accountability in prophetic practices.
Bethel's approach to supernatural evangelism (known as "treasure hunting") has significant effects on Redding's community. Former BSSM students reveal how the church's teachings ultimately led them to question and abandon their faith. A concerning pattern emerges as students increasingly drift toward New Age practices and atheism—raising serious questions about Bethel's interpretation and communication of the gospel message.
