Barnaby Spoot, the lowly assistant in a novelty shop managed by short-tempered Mr Bostock, is determined to make his mark in the novelty trade by inventing new gags. Unfortunately, his latest device is typical: a talking cheese (the Chatty Cheddar) that no one wants.
