Terry and June decide to become foster parents to fill the void left after their own children have left the nest.

St Luke's church committee decides to raise funds to repair the church roof. Terry writes and directs an historical pageant, intended to be a lavish spectacle.

Susie gets engaged to Lord Meridue. Her parents visit the potential in-laws for a weekend but Terry's idea of the aristocracy is slightly dated...

June and Aunt Lucy are watching TV when a notorious criminal's identikit is shown. June and her aunt realise with shock whose identikit it is.

In their forties and feeling that their lives are no longer with meaning or excitement, Terry enters himself and June in a car rally.

The Fletchers can't agree on their holiday plans. This results in a trial separation of sorts, ostensibly to bring them closer together.

Terry is in a protesting mood and enlists Aunt Lucy and June in numerous letter writing campaigns. Actual picketing does not pan out as planned.

A French exchange is staying with the Fletchers. Terry is initially unhappy with the idea, but despite the language barrier, he immerses himself in the student's culture.

Aunt Lucy buys a gift for Terry and June. Things take a very complicated twist soon afterwards.
