Overview

Olga is jealous of her husband Akulina. Moabad Khan realizes that Tolstoy's card opponent is a cheater, and wins back his debt. In an orphanage, Mongo meets a prostitute Marusei, the mother of one of the children. He tells how he came to God, and advises Marusa not to despair either. Okhotnikov comes to Alexander and asks him not to punish Elizabeth. Alexander decides to recognize Elizabeth's child as his own and does not give her a divorce. Julia is amazed by the news of the Empress's pregnancy.
