Surgeon Gill faces the difficult decision of whether to operate on cancer patient Maldwyn, while in maternity, trainee midwife Janine meets expectant parents Alison and Alan, who have opted for a planned C-section after losing their daughter the previous year. Cardiology patient Derek has put his holiday plans on hold as he awaits an operation to fit a stent in his heart, and catering manager Paul reveals what it takes to prepare and distribute thousands of meals across the hospital.
