Turpin, only one step ahead of Manderfell's huntsmen, discovers the secret of the Devil's Chimney and the rightful owner of Joe Cutler's loot.

Turpin and Swiftnick, hotly pursued by the Dragoons, run into old adversary Sir John Glutton; he now has a price on his head for treason.

Turpin, assisted by Swiftnick, rescues Mary from Edward Faversham and his accomplices. In revenge, Faversham hires Catherine Langford to help snare Turpin.
